Is it to late for BoP Arabesque Weekend? Maybe I’ll call it “Extra Arabesque Monday.”
Anyways, week 2 of ballet class is complete! We had new students starting this week, and kicked the class up a notch with extra center work. We learned how to soutenu, which I feel is a fancy technical word for “classy way to switch sides at the barre.” We also did a LOT more center work this week, lots of traveling across the floor and combinations. Closing out this class was piqué pirouettes. I never thought I would get so dizzy! I was focusing to hard on my arm positions, and completely forget to spot (>.<) Oh well, live and learn. I feel great now, and am ready to tackle the week. Onwards!
It’s never too late!
And I love pique turns! They’re my favourite. :)
Taken for Back On Pointe’s Arabesque Weekend. :)
It’s not the prettiest - I still have a torn muscle in my shoulder, so it’s a little bit difficult to engage all the muscles in my back to get my leg as high as usual while keeping my back straight, but…. *shrug*
It’s summertime! Celebrate by taking part in Back On Pointe’s Arabesque Weekend!
The arabesque is a classic ballet pose, with one leg raised behind the dancer, at heights that range from inches off the ground to straight up in the air. It is a test of balance and of both flexibility and strength. (Also, it’s gorgeous.)
So lift that leg up, find a cute position for your arms, and snap a picture of your arabesque. Tag it with #ArabesqueWeekend or submit it to Back On Pointe!
