“i know you mostly answer questions about fitness and health, but i figured since you're a dancer you might be able to help me. whenever i'm doing battements with my left leg, my hip seems to like come out of joint or something and i feel this annoying (and sometimes painful) pop when i release my leg. it never happens on the right side, just the left, and i'm not sure if it has to do with my turnout or if something's just wrong... any advice?”
I’d see a doctor about it. I have scar tissue in my left hip, which often causes a “pop” or a “thunk” when I’m doing extensions, but from what you’re describing, it might be an issue with the tendons or connective tissue in that hip.

I have the same thing with my left hip and it’s called a snapping hip syndrome and if it is only uncomfortable than nothing can be done. But if you feel extreme pain, than go see a physician, because you can injure the ligament.

Similar issue - due to dislocating my hip as a teen, it’s prone to falling out of place. Go check with a doctor and/or physiotherapist - they’ll give you some stretches to help!
