I'm a college student and a dancer, and I'm working to lose weight, gain muscle, become more fit... and help others do the same!

My Ask Box is always open to questions, suggestions, or if you just need to talk. If you'd like something to be answered privately, just let me know in the message. (Note: anonymous questions cannot be answered privately.)

“Hi! I have danced for about 6 years now. I took 2 years of ballet when I was younger but I haven't done ballet in a long while. I have taken jazz for all 6 years and lyrical for 2. I want to start ballet and be able to go en pointe. How long do you think it will take me to reach pointe class?”

It depends entirely on your body and your teacher. I was able to go en pointe quickly because I have strong, flexible ankles, relatively high arches, and a teacher who knew that I was dedicated to my ballet technique.

When you find a ballet class that you like, work hard, listen to corrections and apply them, and talk to your teacher to let them know that you’re interested in eventually taking a pointe class. Ask them for advice that will help you get there and ask them if there’s a pre-pointe or strengthening class offered that you could take.
