“So should I wait until classes start to see what the teacher prefers? So what do I do the first day about footwear? And since I'm just starting, I learned a lot of basic leaps, I want to do Jazz all four years if I can. Do you think I would ever get the full Russian splits or Right and Left split leaps? Or would that take more than 4 years? I am pretty flexible, like I have both splits down and almost my middle, but not my straddle at all. And I can only do 1 pirouette. Will age effect these?”
If you’d like, try e-mailing the teacher and seeing what they prefer. But if your classes are anything like my dance classes in college, the first day will mostly be going over the expectations, getting to know each other, and maybe some goofy dancing.
But yeah, if you work hard in and out of class, you can get all of those things in under four years! Heck, I went into college with zero dance experience and was on pointe after a year of ballet and doing double pirouettes after 2 years of various classes. (Though I still don’t have my splits. I’ve been slacking off on my stretching.)
