“Hey, so I'm trying to get a flat stomach before I go to Florida (end of March), what would you recommend that I do to achieve this goal?”
Here’s what I would suggest:
- Increase your cardio. Walk more, take the stairs, go swimming, dance around your house, take a Zumba class, do jumping jacks while watching TV, etc. Cardio will increase your metabolism, up your endurance, and burn calories and fat.
- Better your posture. Seriously. Standing up straight and lifting your belly button to your bra line can help a lot. Imagine that you’re hanging on a string; your head presses to the ceiling and your body elongates. And don’t “suck in” your stomach, but engage your abs and try to lift and lengthen the front of your body.
- Ab exercises. Plank is really great for the abs. Side planks (with or without dips) and Russian twists will help cinch in obliques. Slow crunches and sit-ups (make sure you keep the abs in and engaged; don’t let them splay outwards) can help as well.
- Eat healthy. Don’t eat too much sodium or sugar alcohols, as they can bloat you. Increase the amount of fruits (low-calorie and good for you) and vegetables (high in fiber) you eat.
